Leeds United missed the chance to return to the top of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon as John Eustace got the better of Daniel Farke once again.
Todd Cantwell scored the game’s only goal from the penalty spot after Ao Tanaka fouled Tyrhys Dolan. Daniel Farke hinted at a contentious call, but Tony Dorigo believed the referee was correct to direct to the spot.
Eustace secured a third consecutive 1-0 victory over Farke and Leeds in the three meetings between the two managers since Farke was named Leeds’ next manager in the summer of 2023.
Few Leeds players can honestly say they performed well. Ao Tanaka even shown that he is only human after assuming a magnificent form. Tanaka conceded a penalty and lost nine of his fifteen duels during the defeat.
Tony Dorigo blasts Jayden Bogle for moment in the first half
Dorigo, a former full-back, has previously criticised Bogle. Dorigo believed Bogle was to blame for Burnley’s goal in September, and he criticized Bogle for a “awful” challenge against Watford.
Even last week, Dorigo begged Bogle to “stop the cross” after Florian Bianchini scored a late third goal for Swansea in Wales. On Saturday, he slammed Bogle after the defender received a yellow card.
Bogle found himself in a tricky situation after making a mistake on 24 minutes, losing control to Blackburn’s industrious no.10 Dolan before dragging him down for his sixth yellow card of the season.
Dorigo told LUTV: “That was a really bad mistake. Just go there and deal with it immediately, but Bogle requires way too many touches and takes far too long. Once you’ve made a mistake, don’t make it worse by placing yourself in the book.”
How Leeds compare this season to last season, after 18 matches
Leeds suffer a blow as they fall behind Burnley and Sheffield United in the race for the top two. However, Farke’s side remain in a solid position, having accumulated the same number of points as previous season.
Leeds finished last season with 35 points from 18 games, including 10 wins, five draws, three losses, and 31 goals. This season, it’s the same story: third place, but only three points behind the leaders.
Leeds will now have to wait until next Saturday to make things right, but Joe Rodon claims the squad is “very angry” and are already eager to go when 2019 play-off opponents Derby visit Elland Road.
