Sheffield United gained three points on Leeds United this weekend after the Whites’ lost to Blackburn.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s early kick-off on Saturday, as they were beaten 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers.
Todd Cantwell scored the lone goal of the game with a first-half penalty, keeping Sheffield United top of the Championship after their 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Friday night. The Blades entered the latest round of fixtures in second place, trailing Leeds on goal differential, but now have a three-point lead over their Yorkshire rivals. Burnley is second after beating Stoke City, while the Black Cats are fourth after the Blades won at Bramall Lane.
Leeds returned from the international break against Swansea City last Sunday and defeated Luton Town at Elland Road on Wednesday night. The match versus Blackburn started at 1.30pm, 90 minutes sooner than anticipated, following a request and intervention from Lancashire Police back in September.
Farke expressed his disappointment with the short turnarounds following their loss at Ewood Park, but claimed he would not use them as a justification for his team’s failure. He stated, “We started a little too slowly and, especially at first, gave away too many unnecessary free kicks and fouls. The penalty was essentially the same situation. I don’t want to be too critical, so “lazy” could be a little harsh, but we started too slowly. I believe we should have focused more on it in the first half and spent more. We should have been a little quicker in the head. But we weren’t.
