Despite the fact their takeover saga was ongoing, Sheffield United were still able to enjoy a productive summer transfer window
The Blades may have lost several outstanding players since the conclusion of last season, including Cameron Archer and former loanee Ben Brereton Diaz, but their signings have put them in a good position to contend for a Premier League return in their first season back.
Tyrese Campbell and Michael Cooper have proven to be good signings thus far, while Harrison Burrows has also made significant contributions.
With some solid possibilities in numerous areas, the Blades may be more interested in adding depth to their roster in January than signing a top-tier starter. However, certain essential additions cannot be ruled out.
With the squad’s current form indicating that it can challenge at the top of the table, a large budget is unnecessary, and United must be careful not to rock the boat too much following a strong start to the 2024/25 season.
Who they need to recruit will depend on who departs, but United will undoubtedly do everything they can to keep their present core first-team players until at least the end of the season.
In terms of prospective January acquisitions, FLW looks at two players Chris Wilder’s team should be scouting ahead of the winter season.
Kwame Poku
Kwame Poku has proven to be an invaluable asset to Peterborough United in recent years, particularly in the final third last season.
If he continues to perform well this season and scores consistently in the 2024/25 season, it will only be a matter of time until he receives a lot of attention, and the Blades should put their hat in the ring for him.

Currently, the Blades do not have a large amount of wingers on their roster.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has the potential to be a game changer out wide, but he is just on loan at Bramall Lane and it is uncertain whether he will remain in South Yorkshire until the season ends.
Callum O’Hare and Andre Brooks can also play out wide if needed, but United might use at least one more winger to boost their offensive power.
They may have had a good start to the season, but if they can continue to add firepower to their lineup, they will have the best chance of gaining promotion and dealing with injuries.
United and Posh already have a relationship thanks to the signing of Burrows, and they might use that to initiate discussions for Poku.
Evan Ferguson (loan)
Kieffer Moore, Campbell, and Rhian Brewster may be alternatives when healthy, but having another clinical forward on the team could improve their prospects of promotion.
Moore hasn’t scored much this season, but signing Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, who will be eager to break back into the Seagulls’ first squad, could be a wise decision.
Given his lack of game time this season, the Irishman could benefit from a loan transfer away from the Amex Stadium, and United could be a perfect destination for him if he can secure a fair amount of game time at the Lane.
Burnley, Fulham, and Leicester City have all lately been linked with a move for him, so they are unlikely to be the only team vying for his signature.
The Blades may be able to offer him more playing time than other teams in the race, therefore they should try to reach a deal with him.
This may not be a particularly expensive deal, either, given that they would be signing him on loan.
