Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s manager, must make significant changes to the present roster in order to compete with his old Sporting CP team.

Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United is unknown, as his contract expires in June 2025. Nevertheless, the club

have the option to extend it for an extra year.

The England international has been sidelined since a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in October.

He took part in an open training session at Carrington on Wednesday morning, but was ruled out of the midweek Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt.

His availability for today’s Premier League showdown with Everton is still to be verified. If he stays fit, he might be a reliable centre-back option for Amorim.

Maguire might play an important role in the three-man defence.

Matthijs de Ligt started both games for Amorim in that capacity.

Given his enormous potential and the value he brings, he is projected to be a regular in the lineup.

Amorim has stated on numerous times that rotation will be critical to keeping the squad fit, especially given the difficult schedule ahead.

A back-three system is better suited to Maguire than a typical back-four.

With two center-backs, he covers less territory and is better protected from fast attackers.

The £15 million-rated star has an excellent passing range, particularly when it comes to delivering long balls from behind.

De Ligt lacks this talent, and Maguire could help to better involve the wing-backs in the game.

If he can convince Amorim over the next six months, United may exercise the option to extend his contract until 2026.
