Frank Lampard sends ‘celebrity’ warning to Coventry fans after rescuing draw with Cardiff in first game as manager since replacing club legend Mark Robins

Frank Lampard has warned Coventry City fans that he is there to win games as manager, not as a ‘star’ who expects everything to revolve around him.

Lampard was named the permanent replacement to Robins earlier this week, returning to management after a year and a half away from the game. His final post was as interim manager of Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Coventry’s decision to break ways with Robins was generally viewed as controversial, given he brought the club from League Two to the Championship during a seven-year period. Nonetheless, Sky Blues fans have greeted Lampard with loving arms, and he earned a standing ovation before his debut game on Saturday, a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City.

What Lambert said Lampard said in his post-match press conference, “I’m extremely grateful to the fans. I understand the legacy of the previous manager, and I’m not here to fight it.

“I am a low-key individual. That is how I am. I’m here as the head coach. I am not here as a celebrity. Even though some may not believe this, I do avoid those situations at times.

I appreciate it, but this is not my moment.

“We wanted more than just a draw, but they were very encouraging.” That relationship is now solely focused on us. It’s about how much momentum we can generate and how we can transform this venue for home games.”

What’s next for Lampard and Coventry?

Lampard will be hoping for his first win as Coventry manager next Saturday when his team travels to Millwall. The Sky Blues are in 16th position, three points clear of the relegation zone.
