“Crucial” – Sheffield United: Pundit reacts to Leicester City, Crystal Palace transfer news
Under Chris Wilder, Sheffield United has recovered from their disappointing season in the top flight to become automatic promotion candidates in the Championship this year.
Although they are all under contract with the Bramall Lane team, players like Gustavo Hamer, Harrison Burrows, Michael Cooper, and Oliver Arblaster have contributed to the Blades’ success thus far. The team has also profited from their astute use of the loan market this summer.
While Crystal Palace wideman Rak-Sakyi has been one of the second division’s most impressive wingers since his loan move to South Yorkshire in August, Souttar, who was signed for the season from Leicester City, has been a fixture at the core of Wilder’s backline.
Both players are expected to stay past the winter window, despite the fact that there has been much conjecture over their futures at United and if they would stay for the entire season.
After reaching an appearance threshold agreed upon with Leicester, Wilder has confirmed that Souttar cannot be called up. He has also expressed confidence in keeping Rak-Sakyi, who Palace manager Oliver Glasner has now stated the team will not call up.
Carlton Palmer backs Blades for promotion after Harry Souttar, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi recall boost
In an exclusive interview with FLW, former England international and EFL analyst Palmer emphasised the significance of the Blades being able to retain both players for the entire season and expressed confidence that the on-loan pair can assist United return to the Premier League.
Palmer told FLW, “It is essential for Chris Wilder to keep these two players on loan in the building because Sheffield United is winning the league and playing fantastically under Wilder.”
Since Harry Souttar cannot be remembered, Wilder won’t have any issues, and Sheffield United will be happy.
“Jesurun Rak-Sakyi may be called up in January, but Wilder has stated that he doesn’t see any need for him to be brought up because Mark Bright was at the game the other night.
It’s likely that Crystal Palace will make some purchases during the January window.
“They dispatched Rak-Sakyi out to carry out his identical actions. He has been excellent. He rushes past people and is a goal danger for Sheffield United, who are at the top of the league.
Chris Wilder appears extremely certain that Rak-Sakyi will stay at United for the remainder of the season because that is precisely what Sheffield United wanted him to do.
Crystal Palace will benefit greatly from that. They have a player who has excelled during a season at the level in case they are demoted to the Championship.
“They have a player who has had a season at the top of the Championship and may have been promoted to the Premier League if they stay up.”
With a little bit of luck and a little bit of magic during the January transfer window, I am convinced that Chris Wilder will (get Sheffield United promoted).
Souttar and Rak-Sakyi have been key to the Blades this season
With numerous pivotal moments and continuously strong performances, Sheffield United’s remarkable recent play has prepared them well for the demanding approaching winter schedule. Souttar and Rak Sakyi have both been essential to the team’s success.
Although Souttar has experience leading a Championship promotion charge, he will feel much more involved this season after missing a significant portion of Leicester’s second-tier victory last season because Enzo Maresca chose other players over him.

It did not take long for him to adjust to playing week-in, week-out for the Blades, however, and he has quickly proven himself as one of the league’s premier centre-backs in a team that has kept 11 league clean sheets while he has been a starter.
Rak-Sakyi’s primary contribution to United has been at the other end of the pitch, where his deception and superb dribbling off the right wing have dazzled supporters.
After playing on loan at Charlton Athletic for the 2022–2023 season, Wilder recently stated that the Palace loanee “wants to stay for the season,” which is not surprising considering how well the Bramall Lane supporters have embraced him in his first genuine test in a level higher than the third.
Given their separate contributions to the Blades’ success, both players’ starting spots currently appear assured for the majority of games, and it will be a huge relief to know that they will both remain with the team until their loan agreements expire.
