Sky Sports Norwich City: Kellen Fisher on Thorup and Championship start.
Kellen Fisher is thriving under the demanding Johannes Hoff Thorup in his Championship breakthrough season at Norwich City.
The combative full back was sidelined for the midweek 6-1 victory over Plymouth, but he had already established himself in front of Jack Stacey under the Dane. Fisher hasn’t looked back since being snatched from non-league Bromley in 2023, and he recently received his first call-up to the England Under-21s. “We are all aware that this is a project with a young team, and we have already demonstrated some promising results with an entertaining playing style. “We’ll only improve,” stated the youngster. “I’ve enjoyed it. In comparison to David Wagner, this is a novel approach to training.
“David gave me my debut, and I appreciate it. I enjoyed it. The manager now wants to maintain the standards high, and there are little things he tells you in training to help you improve, and he will regularly remind you to work on those minor things.
“He’s always in your ear to improve on those things, but in a short period of time he has helped me to get better.”
The 20-year-old, who spoke with the Sun, claimed it was a steep learning curve after being fast-tracked into former head coach Wagner’s senior plans from a non-league experiencehttp://sportupdates.co.uk
rather than the typical academy background. “It was pretty tough at first. “I was supposed to be introduced as part of the Under-21s, but I was quickly promoted to the first team,” he explained. “I believe it took me three to six months to adjust to the training and everything else, but everyone at the club was supportive when I was struggling to adjust to this new level of football.
“It has been really good for me getting introduced to men’s football early (at Bromley). I was training with the first team at 16 and 17 and getting all these learning experiences. A different route to those who go through academies, but Bromley were really good to me.
“My agency told me which clubs were interested in me, and Norwich was one of the first. I was on vacation when I received a call from my agent stating it was progressing. I was away from home at the time, so I was a little concerned, but when I returned, they said it was almost done. “So I came to the Norwich training ground and as soon as I got here I knew straightaway this was the club for me.”
