Scale of major scrap metal fire revealed in new image

Norfolk’s fire service has released an image revealing the scale of a scrap metal fire that broke out in King’s Lynn last night.

Crews from King’s Lynn, Terrington, Sandringham, Hunstanton, Fakenham, Aylsham, Hingham, and Sheringham responded to the blaze in the open near Edward Benefer Way shortly after 10.30 p.m. on Thursday.

They employed ground monitors and main jets to extinguish the fire.
Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed owing to the high levels of smoke in the air.

The majority of the firefighters were stood down at 3 a.m., but one appliance remained on scene all morning to monitor the situation.

The East of England Ambulance Service verified that no one was hurt.

The fire service has now released an image illustrating the size of the blaze.

It shows strong plumes of smoke rising from a yard, with many fire engines parked behind the safety cordon.
