Rangers transfer development emerges in Aberdeen ace Jack MacKenzie chase.
According to Scott McDermott, Rangers manager Nils Koppen could be in talks with Aberdeen defender Jack MacKenzie about a prospective transfer.
According to a Daily Record journalist, signing the 24-year-old on a free transfer should be an easy decision for the Ibrox club.
Koppen is reported to want a Scottish core at the club, and the left-back is unlikely to sign a new agreement at Pittodrie, allowing him to be signed on a pre-contract basis.
McDermott wrote, “Here’s one task he (Koppen) should be able to complete with relative ease.” On January 1, he should be chatting with Aberdeen left-back Jack MacKenzie and negotiating a pre-contract agreement. Koppen wants Rangers to have a stronger Scottish identity.
“In the past, it was usual procedure for them to recruit the greatest talent from other top-tier clubs, such as Nacho Novo, Kris Boyd, Ryan Jack, and others. Abandoning such policy in recent years is another reason why they are so far behind Celtic.
“However, signing MacKenzie should be a no-brainer. The full-back is available for free and is unlikely to sign a new contract at Pittodrie.
Jack MacKenzie will be a quality signing for Rangers
The Scotsman’s signing on a free transfer would be a major coup for the Ibrox club.
At 24, MacKenzie represents a mix of youth and experience, fitting into the club’s objective of developing a squad with a strong Scottish core, which not only improves local support but also makes player acclimatisation easier.
Rangers may benefit from his experience as a trustworthy left-back, as Jefte is now the primary option and Ridvan Yilmaz has been struggling with injuries this season.
Rangers can reallocate finances elsewhere by signing MacKenzie without paying a transfer fee, potentially strengthening less crucial areas.
As McDermott said, this transfer is consistent with the club’s heritage of acquiring outstanding Scottish talent from competitors, which has historically boosted their roster.
Koppen will have to act quickly, since clubs in the English Championship are also reportedly interested in signing him. [The Sun.]
