Graeme Souness issues claim on injection of money into Rangers.
Graeme Souness believes that Rangers require a financial injection to close the gap with Celtic.
The former Gers boss believes the Hoops have superior strikers, despite previously praising Hamza Igamane.
This follows his brace in the club’s 4-1 victory over Nice on November 28.
On November 30, Souness stated, “I believe Rangers need an injection of money to help the manager do his job, which he is more than capable of doing with the resources.” Right now, he is managing a bunch of players who are behind Celtic, and I may be chastised for saying so, but I don’t see a huge gap between the two teams. I was at an Old Firm cup final and a league game between them last season, and I didn’t see one team out-football the other.
“What I see is Celtic having guys who do the most essential thing, which is to regularly put the ball in the net more than Rangers do.
“I get angry watching football games when it’s teams I care about, but Rangers’ performance against Nice was much more in line with the standard they’ve set in recent seasons in Europe.
“Igamane was brilliant and put his hand up as a strong candidate for one of the striking roles, which was fantastic to witness. You can’t discount the achievement of Rangers’ victory in Nice, which should be a boost to everyone at the club.
Rangers need to start spending money on the right kind of players
Even when finances were available, Gers did not always spend wisely, indicating significant structural flaws.
During previous transfer windows, the club brought in players that, despite the financial investment, did not satisfy the team’s expectations or tactical needs, resulting in an ill-fitting roster.
While Igamane’s brace against Nice is a good start, it’s too early to designate him as the team’s goal-scoring solution.
Philippe Clement must successfully integrate new signings into the team’s system.
The key for Gers is not simply recruiting quality, but also ensuring that these players match the club’s philosophy and the manager’s playing style.
Clement needs to work on getting regular performances out of his squad, fine-tuning strategies to suit their abilities, and making things happen in the future.
