Blackpool boss guarantees defender start against Birmingham City as absence of another is explained

This weekend, Jordan Gabriel is expected to return to the Blackpool lineup.

In an attempt to build on their success over Bristol Rovers in the middle of the week, the Seasiders will host Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road on Sunday afternoon (K.O. 1pm).

Due to familial obligations, Gabriel did not play in Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory at Memorial Stadium, where the 26-year-old became a father once more.

Odel Offiah, a Brighton & Hove Albion loanee, filled in at right back when the former Nottingham Forest young player was not available.

“He did very well,” Bruce said.

“He’s a big powerful strong lad and he gives something in the wide area when he gets up and running. He’s very difficult to stop.

“Gabs (Jordan Gabriel) had a little girl in the last 48 hours, so that’s why he missed the game, so we’ll offer congratulations to him and his partner. He’ll be available for Sunday.

“It’s a nice headache to have, rather than having problems where you can’t fill a team. Let’s hope I pick the right one.”

Matthew Pennington was given a chance in the starting lineup after Offiah switched positions, and he was able to make an impression on the Blackpool head coach.

“He used his experience to steady us, which was beneficial to him,” Bruce continued.

A person takes a gamble, and another person loses out. Penno played really well, so he will undoubtedly play on Sunday. I wouldn’t be doing my job well if I made fun of him and kept him out. He merits remaining on the team.
