After an outstanding start to the new season, Wolves are allegedly planning to extend their contract offer to star forward Matheus Cunha.
The Old Gold want to retain their greatest players at any costs, even if they are aware that the Premier League’s top clubs are interested in them. Rayan Ait-Nouri, a left wing-back who has been strongly linked to Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks, and Cunha both fall under this category.
According to The Telegraph, Wolves want to give Cunha a reward for his performances over the last two seasons by giving him much better terms and prolonging his time at Molineux. According to reports, the Old Gold want to make sure Cunha’s contract is for a longer period of time since they believe that bigger clubs will inevitably come knocking in the summer.
This revelation follows rumors that Tottenham executives had been discussing a possible summer transfer window move for Cunha. Man Utd, another Premier League team, is rumored to have been keeping tabs on the Brazilian’s development.
Despite Wolves’ dismal play this season, 25-year-old Cunha, who is approaching his prime, has provided an incredible seven goals and three assists in 12 Premier League games. Even when his team has lost, Cunha continues to shine in games despite Wanderers only having nine points out of a possible 36.
Cunha contributed goals at a similar pace last season as well, scoring 12 goals and dishing out seven assists in 32 league games. At the time, the £44 million fee might have appeared a bit much, but the 11-time former Brazil international is undoubtedly proving himself.
