Despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ dismal start to the 2024–25 season, a few of their players have had outstanding individual seasons.
Rayan Ait-Nouri is one of the guys who is playing well. The Algerian left wing-back has now contributed five goals in 12 Premier League games this season.
Summertime signing This term, Jorgen Strand Larsen has also done well. The center-forward is now on loan at the team, but next summer, the agreement might become permanent. In 13 appearances across all competitions thus far this season, he has four goals and three assists.
But without a doubt, Matheus Cunha is the Old Gold’s main attraction this term.
Cunha’s stats in 2024/25
The reality that Gary O’Neil’s team has had a terrible season overall this term cannot be denied. Although they have since recorded two wins, they went winless in the first ten games of the season. Cunha’s excellent form is a major factor in that.
This season, the Brazilian attacker has made 12 appearances for the Old Gold in the Premier League. He has already recorded three assists and seven goals.
Before scoring twice and dishing out an assist in Wolves’ most recent victory, a 4-1 thumping of Fulham at Craven Cottage, he grabbed one goal and one assist against Southampton in gameweek 11 to win the match.
One of the Premier League’s best performers this season is the adaptable forward.According to FBref, he is tied for third position with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson for the most goals and assists in the English Premier League with 10 goal involvements.
The only players who are ahead of him are Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, and Palmer, who all have 12, and Mohamed Salah, who has 16. It’s safe to assume that Cunha is among the best.
The 25-year-old’s versatility is among his strongest qualities. He has played in a deeper role at all three places this season. Although his best play may be as a number 10, he has also helped score goals while playing other positions.
Frustratingly for the Old Gold, Cunha could soon be set to leave Molineux. Football Insider recently reported that Manchester United ‘are plotting a move to sign’ the Brazilian next summer. Whilst this would be a big blow for the club, they might have an on-loan star ready to step up.
The academy star who can replace Cunha
The player in question here is 21-year-old Welsh attacking midfielder Chem Campbell. The youngster is currently out on loan at League 1 side Reading, where he has put in some standout performances.
This term, the youngster has played 14 times in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering four assists so far. He has predominantly played as a winger, although is also able to play as a number ten.
The Welshman has already experienced first-team football at Molineux. The Old Gold academy star has played eight games so far for Wolves, featuring for 172 minutes. He made his first team debut in the Carabao Cup in 2019.
In order to better prepare for a possible first-team position at Molineux, Campbell has had three loans since then. The youthful attacker has played for Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic in addition to Reading this season.
