Kieran McKenna has urged his Ipswich side to build on their recent form when they travel to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday
Ipswich’s improving Premier League progress will be for nothing if they don’t build on it, Kieran McKenna has
cautioned.
After a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Manchester United last weekend, promoted Town followed up their impressive
first win of the season at Tottenham before the international break. However, they are still in the top-flight
relegation zone, if only on goal differential, as they get ready for their trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Though she is aware that the only reward that matters is assessed in the tangible currency of points, McKenna is
certain that progress is being achieved.
“You look at the performances in both games there were a lot of positives, but it’s up to us to continue that,” he said
at a press conference. “Our last two games have generally been positive results, I think the couple of games before
that have been very positive performances where we should have had more points, so we feel like we are in pretty
good form. “But it’s about the next game and a tough game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and getting ready
for that. “We will take the little bits from the last couple of games that will be relevant but this is a completely
different type of game, different challenge, different opponent and we need to step it up again.”
Marcus Rashford’s goal in the second minute put Ipswich down, but they showed incredible tenacity to rally behind
Omari Hutchinson and then threaten to win all three points.
But for the time being at least, McKenna is not going to make too much of an inspiring comeback.
“It’s only one game, but it was a good game,” he added. On the balance of opportunities, we believe we could have
won. Without a doubt, our squad had a better chance of winning.
However, we have little interest in creating extensive summaries of a single game. Although it’s another point after a
really strong effort, all eyes will be on Nottingham Forest for the next match.
“A little later on, at the end of the season, will be the time to take stock. Right now, we only need to concentrate on
our next performance and the season’s next game. We have been doing that since the end of Sunday.
“We are pleased that we are playing well and are generally difficult to defeat. in the early going of the season as a
recently promoted squad and in terms of continuously being competitive in practically every game.
“We would want to have a few more points, and we believe that we could or should have won at least one or two of
those, especially considering the number of home draws.
However, there are some good things there, and we’re going to work to improve. However, you really can’t rely on
anything with all of these items. Everything restarts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and we must strive for a different
outcome.
