Premier League big boys ‘target summer move’ for Ipswich hotshot Liam Delap – with one side having the upper hand due to clause in his contract
Premier League clubs are allegedly interested in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap following his strong start this season.
Delap joined the newly promoted Tractor Boys this summer for a whopping £20 million.
The attacker signed a five-year contract after leaving Manchester City.
Delap has six goals in 12 Premier League games this season, and his play is apparently attracting interest from the
top flight’s premier clubs.
The Athletic reports that Delap might join a ‘Big Six’ team next summer if he maintains his current form.
Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly admirers of England’s under-21 international.
According to the article, Manchester City might spoil their rivals because the Premier League winners often include
buy back or matching rights clauses in the majority of their sales.
Despite Delap’s goalscoring form, Ipswich are now in the Premier League relegation zone.
Kieran McKenna’s side has nine points from their first 12 games of the season.
The Tractor Boys, on the other hand, are only in the bottom three on goal difference and have been boosted by a
surprising victory against Tottenham and a draw against Manchester United in their past two games.
Their chances of remaining in the top level could depend on Delap’s form, as the forward has scored six of their 13
Premier League goals this season.
Relegation from the top division would most certainly have an impact on the asking price Ipswich may set for the
forward.
McKenna had tried to downplay claims of interest in Delap, claiming that he was unaware of Man City’s buy-back
provision.
‘It’s nothing I’m aware of or interested in, to be honest,’ McKenna stated this week. ‘I believe that is a question for
other people.
‘My entire emphasis is on this season, and I’m trying to assist Liam continue to progress. I know Liam is completely
focused on helping the team.
‘He’s had a good start to the season, but we must remember that it’s still early days for him. This is his first season
starting regularly at number nine.
‘This is his first season doing it consistently, maybe twice a week, and he’s doing it in the Premier League.’
