In an attempt to capture Brazilian centre-back Rodrigo Guth, Stoke City has been connected to a transfer raid in the Netherlands.

The 24-year-old Guth, a close friend of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and a former Brazil youth international, has been making waves in the Dutch top flight with Fortuna Sittard in recent years because to his ball-playing and aerial skills.

According to German press reports, Stoke is showing interest in the defender, who is also a German citizen. He has a contract that expires in 2027 and has been connected to Panathinaikos and Ferencvaros in the past.

Before joining Atalanta in Italy and then going on loan to Pescara and NEC in Holland, he began his career as a junior with Coritiba in Brazil. He has ambition.

“No, not that,” he told ESPN. “I have to go there eventually. That’s what I want. I’m doing my best and seeing if it’s possible to get there. They are big clubs. Playing European matches would help me get into the picture with Brazil, but for now that’s a long way off. I realise that too. It would just be fantastic. Now I only use my imagination for that.”

Narcis Pelach, heading into his first transfer window as Stoke head coach, has been settling on Ben Gibson and Ashley Phillips in central defence while also having Ben Wilmot, who he has used at right-back, and Michael Rose, as well as England youth prospect Jaden Dixon.
