“I would be utterly gobsmacked” – Bristol Rovers player predicted to return to Blackburn Rovers
With 17 games played, Bristol Rovers have settled into the middle of the pack in League One following an uneven first four months of the season.
The Gas defeated Blackpool 2-0 in the middle of the week after enjoying an incredible 1-0 victory away at Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Jake Garrett, a 21-year-old Blackburn Rovers loanee who still struggles for minutes in the southwest after switching in the summer, had to sit and watch this game instead of playing.
The Championship team has the option to recall the midfield player, which they may do given the lack of significant playing time he has had thus far, and the January transfer market is approaching.
Verdict made on Garrett’s chances of returning to Blackburn
It’s been a difficult campaign so far for Garrett, and he has featured only six times in League One since joining the Gas in August.
He made 28 appearances for Blackburn last season, and while some may have expected him to play a larger role at Ewood Park in 2024/25, John Eustace saw this campaign as an ample opportunity to ensure him consistent minutes.
Joshua Hemmings, a Bristol Rovers fan pundit, has been asked by Football League World if he thinks the Lancashire team will recall their young player in January, but that hasn’t happened.
“If Jake Garrett does not return to Blackburn in January, I would be absolutely shocked,” he told FLW. Simply put, he isn’t playing.
“He’s had moments where he’s shown glimpses, but overall, he’s just been a little bit under par, and maybe you can say that’s because of a lack of opportunity or whatever, but you’re that highly rated in the Championship, surely you play for a League One club.”
Joshua came to the following conclusion: “He will undoubtedly return, but Blackburn will not be pleased with his minutes or his progress with us. He is good, but it’s safe to assume that the Gasheads were not able to fully appreciate the excitement surrounding him.
Garrett has not had the chance to show his talent
It might be argued that Garrett hasn’t had the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities to Matt Taylor and the other Bristol Rovers coaching staff on the pitch, even though he hasn’t always presented the finest image of himself.
The 21-year-old’s loan stay began well, but it has gradually become more challenging, and a 4-0 loss to Swindon Town in the EFL Trophy turned out to be a turning point in his career at Memorial Stadium.

Although he started in the same competition against Exeter City, he hasn’t played since, either beginning on the bench or not making the team at all.
This exile from the starting lineup that their player is currently experiencing would greatly irritate Blackburn, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see Garrett called up in January and transferred to another League One team in order to restart his growth.
