Arsenal handed major Champions League boost amid double suspension

Arsenal have received a significant boost ahead of their next UEFA Champions League league phase match. Arsenal

easily defeated Sporting CP 5-1 at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday night.

Micheal Arteta’s team is now in the top eight and on track to go to the last 16. There are three games left in the league

phase, two of which will take place at the Emirates Stadium.

Two of those three matches are against lower-ranked opponents, with the following one at home against Monaco

appearing the most challenging. After five games, the Ligue Un side is tied with the Gunners in terms of points and is

ranked eighth.

Arsenal will have an advantage against the French team as one of their key players will be suspended for the match.

Wilfried Singo, one of Monaco’s first-choice centre-backs, will miss the game against Arsenal after being sent out for

two yellow cards in the 3-2 loss to Benfica on Wednesday night.

Singo has appeared in four of Monaco’s five Champions League matches and is a regular in Liga.

Singo isn’t the only one who will miss out. Christian Mawissa received his third booking of the league round when

coming off the bench against the Portuguese team. That means he will be suspended for one match against Arsenal.

Mawissa is not as important to Monaco as Singo, having started only one Champions League encounter and three

Ligue Un games. The two suspensions will give manager Adi Hutter something to worry about as he prepares his

team for the match at the Emirates Stadium, however.
