West Brom boost emerges after Leicester City managerial update

West Brom boost emerges after Leicester City managerial update

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former coach of Manchester United, is expected to be hired by Premier League Leicester City.

Fabrizio Romano provided this information, which is a huge plus for West Bromwich Albion.

Following Steve Cooper’s departure, Albion manager Carlos Corberan was mentioned as a candidate for the top position at King Power Stadium.

After Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Chelsea, Cooper departed the Midlands club. That wasn’t a bad outcome on paper, but Top Srivaddhanaprabha decided to fire the former Nottingham Forest manager since certain supporters had been dissatisfied with him for some time.

At this stage, Leicester aren’t in the relegation zone, which is a boost for his successor, but they are hovering just above the drop zone at this stage and there’s work to do for them in their quest to remain afloat in the Premier League for more than one season.

Premier League table (16th-18th)
Team P GD Pts
16 Leicester City 12 -8 10
17 Wolverhampton Wanderers 12 -8 9
18 Ipswich Town 12 -10 9

Prior to their 2023 relegation to the Championship, they were a well-known first-tier team. However, under Enzo Maresca, they excelled throughout the most of the 2023–24 season, earning a return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Cooper, who had gained top-tier English experience during his stint at the City Ground, was named Maresca’s replacement after he ultimately moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

He has only won two league games while leading the team, thus his reign hasn’t exactly been the finest. They also lost badly to a Manchester United team under van Nistelrooy in the EFL Cup.

With this in mind, his departure may not come as a major shock.

Cooper’s possible replacement was the subject of much conjecture following his dismissal.

According to sources, Leicester was willing to pay Corberan’s £2 million release clause in order to entice him to leave The Hawthorns.

Given the outstanding progress he has made with the team since joining, this would have been a significant setback for the Baggies.

However, according to transfer insider Romano, van Nistelrooy is expected to take over, thus it appears that he will stay with the second-tier team for the time being.

Now that an agreement has been reached, the Dutchman’s team is signing contracts before being formally introduced at King Power Stadium.

His move to Leicester comes shortly after his departure from Man United.

West Brom will be relieved to retain Carlos Corberan

Since his arrival, Corberan has surely been a benefit to Albion as a highly talented coach.

Though he may not have led them to the Premier League, the Spanish coach has done well with the few resources at his disposal and has perhaps overachieved.

He might continue and experience more success now that he had new ownership.

It will be a huge relief to the board that they were able to keep him on board since he would have been difficult to replace if he had left.

They have greatly benefited from Corberan’s stability at The Hawthorns. Fans are now eager to see where he can lead them.
