According to reports, Southampton has received a new price increase in an attempt to sign a Bundesliga player as they desperately look for the additions that may help them survive in the Premier League.
As a busy holiday season draws near, Southampton’s situation could not be more dire as they are at a complete standstill and five points outside of safety. When playing league leaders Liverpool, Russell Martin’s team came very close to pulling off a huge upset, but Mohamed Salah, as usual, pulled the Reds to win. But the Saints should definitely improve on that performance.
Meanwhile, with players like Vasco De Gama’s Rayan and even Real Madrid’s Endrick already linked to Southampton ahead of 2025, those at St Mary’s must hope that the situation is salvageable enough for reinforcements to make a much-needed effect when the January transfer window does arrive.
Endrick, who is on loan from the La Liga powerhouses, may be an especially spectacular addition. It is a Real Madrid jewel if somebody has the ability to hone the Saints’ offense. However, he is not the only offensive reinforcement that has recently been brought up.
The Boot Room’s Graeme Bailey claims that Southampton has now received a new price increase in their pursuit of Romano Schmid, whose agent is reportedly pressuring the team to leave Werder Bremen. If the Saints are able to stave off interest from both Fulham and Aston Villa, the Bundesliga team is now reportedly willing to accept an offer below £10 million, potentially giving them a great deal.
The management of Southampton has attempted to sign a player who has previously been connected to a move to the Premier League.
Schmid is mostly an offensive midfielder, but he can also play in central midfield and off the left side, giving Martin much-needed versatility at the center of his team.
“Talented” Schmid can form Dibling partnership
By completing a move to Southampton, Schmid could have the chance to form a partnership with one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents in Tyler Dibling. The winger caused Liverpool all sorts of problems and with a player of Schmid’s calibre next to him, Dibling may thrive even further to potentially fire the Saints to safety.
Werder Bremen anticipated Schmid’s ascent after signing him at the age of 18, since he showed promise in the previous season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.
“Romano is a talented player, who’s received really good training, originally in Graz and then in Salzburg,” Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann said on the team’s website immediately after welcoming Schmid. Being able to hire him makes us very happy.
Schmid, who is currently 24 years old, appears likely to leave the Bundesliga team because his agent is apparently pressing for an exit before 2025. The Austrian might make his biggest move to date by leaving the Bundesliga for the Premier League and the opportunity to help Southampton stay afloat in England’s top division.
