Six Injured in Bonfire Night Hit-and-Run Crash on Suburban Manchester Street
A Bonfire Night celebration turned into a horrifying ordeal in suburban Manchester as six people were injured in a hit-and-run crash on a typically quiet residential street. The incident, which occurred late Saturday evening, has left the community in shock and authorities appealing for witnesses.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the suburban street just after 8 PM, following reports of a car plowing into a crowd of people before speeding away. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as families, many of whom had gathered to enjoy Bonfire Night festivities, were left scrambling to avoid the vehicle.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the victims—three adults and three children—were treated at the scene for injuries ranging from minor cuts and bruises to more serious fractures. Two individuals were later transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
“I was there with my kids watching fireworks when suddenly this car came speeding down the road,” said local resident Sarah Thompson. “It felt like a nightmare. People were screaming and trying to get out of the way. It’s something I’ll never forget.”
Other witnesses described the vehicle, believed to be a dark-colored sedan, as driving erratically before the crash. Some reported seeing the driver accelerate deliberately into the crowd, raising concerns about whether the act was intentional.
Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and are treating the case as a serious incident. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have appealed to the public for any information regarding the vehicle or its driver.
“We are committed to identifying the individual responsible for this appalling act,” said Detective Inspector Karen Smith. “This was a callous attack on innocent people enjoying a community event. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Many residents expressed their disbelief and anger, with some calling for increased safety measures during public events.
Local councillor James Peters stated, “This is a tragedy for our community. Bonfire Night is meant to bring people together in celebration, not end in fear and injury. We will be working closely with authorities to ensure public safety at future events.”
In the aftermath of the crash, local groups have rallied to support the victims and their families. A fundraiser has been set up to help cover medical expenses, and counselling services are being made available to those affected by the traumatic event.
Police have asked anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact them immediately. “Even the smallest detail could help us piece together what happened,” added DI Smith.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on providing support to the injured and ensuring that justice is served for the victims of this tragic incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police or the independent charity Crimestoppers.
