Rugby hero Kevin Sinfield acknowledges that because he “hates running,” his most recent 230-mile fundraising effort will be the most difficult one yet.
across seven days, Kevin, 44, will run seven 50-kilometer (32-mile) ultra marathons across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England.
This Sunday, December 1, marks the start of the ‘Running Home for Christmas’ charity event in Liverpool, which will feature 8,200 runners dressed as Santa.
The entire challenge is once more dedicated to his friend Rob Burrow, who passed away in June due to motor neurone disease.
As he goes through his hardest times, Kevin said he will be thinking of Rob, his widow Lindsey, and their family, as well as his own wife and children.
The inspirational England coach will return home to Saddleworth for the final leg, and 3,000 more Santas will join him for the big finish. Together with Rob, he has now raised over £16 million for MND families, and this is his fifth yearly challenge.
During the Rob Burrow marathon in 2023, he notably carried his former Leeds Rhinos teammate across the finish line. Kevin has combined a speaking tour with his responsibilities as England coach and a rigorous training schedule for his fifth epic fundraising challenge.
Long coach rides between locations and two flights—one from the UK to Belfast and another from Belfast to Scotland—are additional factors this year.
