Tyler Bindon, a 19-year-old New Zealand international, was one of the team’s most experienced defenders. Looking calm throughout, it was always going to be a challenging evening with physical opponents.
Louie Holzman had a respectable league debut at the age of 21. Up against wily strikers, the boyhood fan did what he had to do against a formidable foe.
Jeriel Dorsett (6:Dorsett, who has been targeted throughout the season, fell short of the level set in recent weeks. I was taken off at half-time.
Lewis Wing had a calmer evening and sat deep compared to his previous performances.
Charlie Savage, 6: Despite being less effective than Saturday’s triumph at Peterborough, the Wales international continued to run hard and play an important role in the press. Put in a beautiful corner that resulted in Smith’s second goal.
Ben Elliott, 6, drove nicely with the ball at his feet and occasionally floated about. Less physical, and we dropped a couple individual duals.
Chem Campbell, 7: An excellent effort by the loanee, who has continuously found his form. Smith curled in a shot, and a header crashed off the crossbar in the build-up to Smith’s second goal.
Harvey Knibbs, 6, was unable to maintain his outstanding run of four goals in two matches, but remained a persistent threat to his opposing team.
Sam Smith (8 points) delivered an exceptional effort as a forward. The attacker has returned to his best form after losing time due to injury, scoring two goals and holding the ball up brilliantly.
