Sky Sports Alistair Johnston wants own part of Celtic history as he targets second Champions League all-nighter after Leipzig high.
The Hoops hero didn’t get any sleep after dumping the Bundesliga side and he is ready for a repeat this midweek.
Alistair Johnston aspires to make Champions League history while also hoping for another Celtic sleepless night. The Hoops star said that he couldn’t sleep after being on such a high after defeating RB Leipzig the previous game. And he’ll be overjoyed with another all-nighter if Celtics finish the group stage against Club Brugge on Wednesday night. Brendan Rodgers’ side can all but secure their place in the play-off round with another three points following their massive triumph over Leipzig and battling draw against Atalanta.
Johnston didn’t sleep well after the RB drama, but he knows the Hoops will need to duplicate the feat against the in-form Belgian stars. He stated, “For the Leipzig match, Celtic Park was on fire. It was unbelievable. Everyone left the stadium that night overjoyed. I didn’t sleep, and I doubt our fans slept much after that.
“Those poor people that had to go to work the next day, I feel for them. But again, it’s matches like that, which just get you hooked.
“It’s almost like a drug that you can’t get enough of after you’ve tried it. You’re just so enthusiastic for the next one to go out there and hopefully reproduce it or improve on it.” Celtic haven’t advanced past the Champions League group stage in 11 years, when Neil Lennon’s side defeated Barcelona on their way to the last 16. Gordon Strachan’s Celtics pulled it off twice, while Martin O’Neill’s men won the competition and advanced to the UEFA Cup Final.
Johnston is fully aware of Hoops’ European heroes, and he maintained that the present team is determined to make their own great narrative. He explained, “When you come to a prestigious club like Celtic, you want to build your own history.
