British troops have been summoned to assist the US Air Force in determining who is responsible for flying drones over two Suffolk facilities and one in Norfolk.
The USAF reported that a limited number of drones were detected overnight flying over RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, as well as RAF Feltwell in Norfolk.
According to sources, some 60 personnel were deployed to assist the USAF in their investigation of the incident.
The number of sightings ‘fluctuated and varied between the bases’, according to the USAF, but the drones were not classified as hostile.
It comes just days after it was announced that a few ‘unmanned aerial systems’ were observed near the three bases between Wednesday and Sunday.
The UK authorities are striving to assure the safety of the sites.
