Sky Sports Todd Cantwell gets last laugh over Philippe Clement as under fire Rangers boss accused of ‘one dimensional’ sin

Sky Sports Todd Cantwell gets last laugh over Philippe Clement as under fire Rangers boss accused of ‘one dimensional’ sin.

After a rocky relationship with Philippe Clement, the playmaker is doing admirably for Blackburn Rovers. Playmaker Todd Cantwell appears to have found his feet at Blackburn Rovers after leaving Rangers behind, and it can only be painful viewing for under-pressure former manager Philippe Clement. The two had a strained relationship after the Belgian took over as manager, until the Englishman ended his time in the Scottish Premiership with a move to the English Championship on the final day of the summer transfer season. Clement had shut Cantwell out of the first team plans when he requested a transfer.

But that was far from the first chapter in the tumultuous relationship the pair endured at Ibrox. The gaffer brutally subbed Cantwell off Ross McCausland after only 35 minutes in the Europa League clash with Aris Limassol, before criticising his lack of width on the right flank during the clash with the Cypriot side – with both parties teasing that the full story had yet to come out following the 26-year-old’s departure.

But, only days after Cantwell openly stated that he would love to return to Ibrox one day, he has received high praise from his Blackburn teammates. Andi Weimann, an experienced forward, believes that after regaining his health after training with the Rangers B squad in pre-season without playing a single minute of football, he is providing John Eustace’s side with a creative spark.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “The manager spends a lot of time analysing opponents and how they play. We spotted an opportunity and capitalised on it. Todd and I were the only ones in those places, which we took advantage of.Todd has been an excellent acquisition, and he has had a successful career thus far. We get to see what he’s capable of during training. It took him some time to catch up, but he’s finally started a few, and having a fully fit Todd on the team will only benefit us.
