The ‘Phenomenal’ £30 million star is wanted by Aston Villa in January.
According to TBR Football, Aston Villa is apparently aiming to sign Malik Tillman, a star for PSV Eindhoven, as Unai Emery continues to hone his team in hopes of securing European football for the upcoming campaign. As both teams keep an eye on the highly regarded 22-year-old’s
development, the Villas may have competition from another Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur.
With ten goal contributions in all competitions for the Dutch team this season, the American midfielder has been playing well. After making a permanent move to the Netherlands in the summer, Tillman has continued to improve his game after making an impression during a loan stint at Rangers in the 2022–2023 season. His performances have only served to attract some of Europe’s top clubs. He played a significant part in PSV’s run to the Eredivisie championship last season, scoring nine goals and dishing out ten assists in 28 league games.
TBR Football reports that Tottenham and Aston Villa are both very much in the running for Tillman’s services and may try to sign him during the next January transfer window. Negotiations for any other club that could approach could be complicated, though, because the player’s previous employers, Bayern Munich, had “included a £30 million buy-back and a sell-on clause” in the contract that saw him move to the Dutch team. If the Bavarians decide to bring the 22-year-old back to the Allianz Arena, they might also think about taking advantage of the provision.
Despite these obstacles, the American international, who was previously called “phenomenal” by John Lundstram, may find Aston Villa to be a desirable destination given their aspirations to compete at the top levels under Unai Emery. Additionally, the Villans have a significant edge over transfer rivals Spurs, who are presently competing in the Europa League, as they have secured Champions League football for the 2024–2025 season.
Throughout his tenures with Rangers and PSV, Tillman’s skill, adaptability, and room for growth have been indisputable. Additionally, with 17 U.S. caps and a Champions League winners’ medal under his belt, his signing might benefit Emery’s team by adding valuable playing experience.
