Sean Payton poured salt in the wound after Broncos swept Raiders

This season, the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders spat barbs frequently. Earlier this year, when the Raiders visited Denver, Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby attempted to razz Bo Nix while he was making calls at the line of scrimmage, but was unsuccessful.

With these two teams in Las Vegas, we saw plenty of squabbles and jawing, including what will go down as a legendary clip of Bo Nix arguing with Raiders defensive lineman Tyree Wilson before a TV timeout.

Following the game, Sean Payton offered credit where it was due. The Raiders pushed the Broncos hard, and the Broncos had to make changes to their game plan as the Raiders sold out to stop the run and performed admirably with their pressure packages, particularly in the first half.

But after praising the Raiders, Payton delightfully threw salt in their wounds…

Sean Payton gives hilarious quote after Broncos swept Raiders

It’s a fantastic comment from Payton, who was flexing after defeating a division opponent for the second time this season. The Broncos have not swept the Raiders in a decade. They have not defeated the Raiders on the road since 2015.

And hey, the last time the Broncos defeated the Raiders on the road, they won the Super Bowl…Crazy things have happened, right?

Payton is aware of the history of the Broncos-Raiders rivalry, but he has had the opportunity to live it for the past four games. You can tell how much these two teams dislike each other, and Payton was clearly ecstatic after the game, celebrating with his players and pumping his hands.

Wins over the Raiders, regardless of record, signify something. Before this season, the Broncos had not won a game against the Raiders in five years. A win like this, especially because the Raiders did come out and hit you in the mouth a little, must feel great.

And, of course, Payton can say things like these on the platform because the Broncos have finished playing the Raiders this season. The Broncos completed a clean sweep of Vegas in 2024, and after so many years of the Raiders having the upper hand, it will be wonderful to see the tables flip once more.
