Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, is ‘one of the favourites’ for the freshly vacant Leicester City job.
Leicester severed ways with Cooper after a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at the weekend. It was a result that put them one point above the relegation zone. Wolves, Ipswich Town, and Crystal Palace all picked up points this weekend.
According to Guillem Balague, who has covered Spanish football for Sky Sports and the BBC, Corberan is one of the favourites to succeed Steve Cooper in the King Power Arena hotseat. Balague spoke with Corberan prior of the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.
Dood (@EyaWeGew), a West Brom transfer insider, has shot down the rumors. He claims that David Moyes and Graham Potter are ahead of him in the pecking order, and that the Foxes are ‘concerned’ about the buyout money for the Spaniard.
The 41-year-old is under contract with the Hawthorns until the summer of 2027. He has been in charge of the Baggies since succeeding Steve Bruce in October 2022, and he has won 45 of 101 games, giving him a win percentage of 44.55%.
Leicester City were connected with a bid for Corberan in the summer, but instead to hire Cooper, who had been fired by Nottingham Forest nearly a year ago. This summer, it was rumored that Corberan has a buy-out clause worth roughly £4 million.
Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is presently the odds-on favourite, with David Moyes coming in second. Ruud van Nistlerooy, who was previously the interim manager of Manchester United, is also a potential candidate; it was rumored last week that the Dutchman was negotiating for a Premier League position.
An appointment is expected to be made this week, considering Leicester’s packed schedule for the next two weeks. They have four matches in the next two weeks, and Telegraph columnist John Percy claims they expect to have someone in place by this week, ahead of their trip to Brentford.
