Following Celtic’s dominant 4-1 victory against Hearts, former Hearts defender and BBC Sportsound analyst Allan Preston has boldly declared the Scottish Premiership title battle finished.
Preston’s comments come as Celtic expand their lead at the top of the table to three points over Aberdeen and an impressive 11 points over Rangers.
Preston stated on BBC Sportsound that Celtic’s dominance prevents them from challenging for the league title. Aberdeen are now three points behind Celtic, and they will not catch up.
Rangers are a long way away, now eleven points behind. The league is finished. Celtic are far ahead.” Preston’s stubborn claim mirrors Brendan Rodgers’ side’s outstanding run, which has routinely found ways to win even on down days.
Their clinical performance at Tynecastle, along with Aberdeen’s previous setback to St Mirren, has reinforced the belief that Celtic are on their brink to another Premiership triumph, making it four in a row.
While Preston’s statements may appeal to some fans, others may see them as premature, especially with more than half of the season left to play. However, Celtic’s ability to grind out games and depth in key areas strongly imply that they are the club to beat.
Rodgers, ever-focused, will likely disregard such claims and continue to expect consistency from his team. However, with an 11-point lead over Rangers and a widening gap between themselves and the trailing group, Celtic’s position at the top appears impenetrable.
