Three roads in Derbyshire have reopened following snowfall, with two schools confirmed to be closed for the day.
Derbyshire County Council announced that the A54 Cat and Fiddle, A53 Axe Edge between Buxton and Leek, and A6024 Holme Moss from Crowden to Holmfirth are now open.
The authorities stated that gritting work on primary highways began at 04:00 GMT on Friday and that all other main routes “remain passable with care”.
Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth and Unstone Junior School in Unstone have closed.
“The area from Buxton to Newhaven has been worst hit by snow conditions, and our gritters have been out ploughing overnight to keep main routes open,” the council wrote in a social media post.
The post also warned drivers to use caution when going on the roadways. According to the travel monitoring website Inrix, the A515 near Newhaven is “impassable due to snow” between the A5012 and B5056.
Meanwhile, the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was dispatched to “multiple incidents” on Thursday owing to the wintry weather.
A “multiple-vehicle incident” in The Street prompted team members to assist Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service.
The incident stopped the route near The Goyt Valley. According to a team official, “Thankfully, all involved walked away.”
The council stated that teams will leave on Friday afternoon to grit more than 1,500 miles of A and B roads.
A spokeswoman stated that they expect an additional eight centimetres of snow on higher ground overnight and asked people to exercise caution when commuting.
