I played with Lennon Miller’s dad and would love him to snub Celtic for Rangers – just like I did 20 years ago

Novo said: “I hope Philippe Clement can turn Rangers’ season around. It’s quite challenging. At the moment he’s the manager and we need to support him.

“Hopefully he will alter things. If he leaves, who will they bring? That is another question. It has to be the proper person. At the time, he is the club’s manager, which we must respect. Hopefully, things will change.

“It’s a challenging scenario right now. But maybe, when the boys return from their week off, things will start to change. Rangers had won two games in a row before the international break; it would have been better to continue playing. But sometimes a reset is a good thing, and maybe they will come back stronger. It’s still early in the season, and we [Rangers] need to work on a number of things.”

Novo defended Cyriel Dessers, a striker who has faced criticism throughout his time at Ibrox, stating that he is a good player. Ally McCoist used to remind me all the time when I missed a chance that you only need to be concerned [as a striker] when you are not creating any opportunities. As long as you go into places and generate opportunities, even if you miss. However, much of football relies on confidence. He needs to have a little bit more support and for more people to go forward to help him.”
