Sky Sports Erin Cuthbert booed by Celtic fans as TNT Sports commentator forced to address awkward reception live on air.
The Scotland international received a cold reception from travelling Hoops fans after coming off the bench in the Champions League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Erin Cuthbert, a Scotland Women’s star, was booed after coming off the bench for Chelsea in their Champions League match against Celtic, prompting the TNT Sports analyst to awkwardly explain why.
The two teams faced off on matchday four of Europe’s premier league, with the Blues coming from behind to win 2-1 at Parkhead last Wednesday. Cuthbert, who began her professional career with Rangers before switching to Glasgow City in 2015, was presented by Blues boss Sonia Bompastor to a chorus of boos from travelling Hoops fans inside the stadium early in the second half.
TNT Sports announcer Jacqui Oatley observed the jeers during the game and understood why the visiting supporters weren’t happy to see 72-time Scotland cap Cuthbert. She continued with a grin, “If you heard any boos from the Celtic contingent, that’s probably why, as we just heard a minute ago.” A Rangers fan from the south of Glasgow.”
Cuthbert saw the funny side of the boos and smiled as she entered the field of play. The Irvine-born midfielder, who has 27 goals for her country, joined Stamford Bridge seven years ago and has won seven WSL titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups.
