Norwich City interested in deal for 19-year-old League Two midfielder

Norwich City have brought Port Vale’s Rhys Walters in on trial as they consider a move for the midfielder, as per the Pink Un.

Norwich City are currently focusing on on-field things as the last international break comes to an end.
The Canaries face a tough winter schedule as they look to regain form in the Championship. There have been some encouraging signs under Johannes Hoff Thorup, but three consecutive defeats before the break dampened spirits.
Turning back their bad form will be the top goal, but those behind the scenes at Carrow Road will also be looking ahead to winter recruitment. And now it appears that a fresh prospect is on their radar.

The Pink Un reports that Norwich City has given promising player Rhys Walters a trial.

The 19-year-old had previously played for various teams, but he made his Norwich City U21 debut on Wednesday night, playing 60 minutes in a Premier League Cup loss to Exeter City. It comes after Walters turned down a new Port Vale contract at the end of the previous season.

While no exit has been confirmed, Walters appears to be looking for a new opportunity.

More on Walters

While Walters’ future at Port Vale remains unclear, it appears that the door is open for him to leave the League Two club after joining Norwich City on trial.
Despite turning 19 earlier this week, the midfielder has already made 22 professional appearances for the Valiants. The club has a good record for nurturing young players, and he appears to be one of those tipped for a bright future.
He has been employed in more attacking roles, including on the wing and even up front, in addition to his customary central midfield position. He played for the Canaries in the latter and spent much of his early career there as well.

Youngsters on the radar

Norwich City routinely bring young players into the first team, whether through their academy or by recruiting players from other clubs at a young age. Kellen Fisher has proven a huge success after moving from Bromley.
Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons, and Jamal Lewis all emerged as standouts at Carrow Road around the same period, and they’ll be looking to replicate that success in the coming years.

Time will tell if Walters can perform well enough to earn a contract at Carrow Road after catching the eye of Port Vale and earning a trial.
