I played with Lennon Miller’s dad and would love him to snub Celtic for Rangers – just like I did 20 years ago

The Motherwell starlet is set to be a player in demand after a string of impressive displays

Nacho Novo hopes Motherwell’s Lennon Miller will choose Rangers over Celtic if given the option, similar to his decision 20 years ago.

When Dundee received bids from the Glasgow giants, the Spaniard had the option of joining either side of the Old Firm split, and he chose the blue side, calling it the best move of his career.

After six years in Govan, Novo won six major titles and reached the UEFA Cup final before joining Sporting Dijon in his native Spain. Later in his career, the striker played for Carlisle, where he played alongside Lee Miller, Lennon’s father and hot property. He was recently scouted by a host of English Premier League clubs while on Scotland youth international duty, with Celtic and Rangers being linked.

According to gambling.com, the 45-year-old has a clear vision for the teenager’s future. He stated: “It’s a difficult one. He’s a highly talented player, but I’m not sure whether he’ll join Rangers or Celtic. It all depends on how much he plays for Celtic and Rangers.

“Perhaps he will play more games for Rangers since they require quality and fresh legs. I played with his father at Carlisle United, and he was a fantastic striker. I’d love it if the Rangers signed him because he’s really talented and mature for his age. He’s only 18, but he appears like an experienced gamer. “He can only get better.”

Rangers need to strengthen as they are nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table, putting more pressure on Philippe Clement ahead of Saturday’s visit from Dundee United to Ibrox.

Novo said: “I hope Philippe Clement can turn Rangers’ season around. It’s quite challenging. At the moment he’s the manager and we need to support him.

“Hopefully he will alter things. If he leaves, who will they bring? That is another question. It has to be the proper person. At the time, he is the club’s manager, which we must respect. Hopefully, things will change.

“It’s a challenging scenario right now. But maybe, when the boys return from their week off, things will start to change. Rangers had won two games in a row before the international break; it would have been better to continue playing. But sometimes a reset is a good thing, and maybe they will come back stronger. It’s still early in the season, and we [Rangers] need to work on a number of things.”

Novo defended Cyriel Dessers, a striker who has faced criticism throughout his time at Ibrox, stating that he is a good player. Ally McCoist used to remind me all the time when I missed a chance that you only need to be concerned [as a striker] when you are not creating any opportunities. As long as you go into places and generate opportunities, even if you miss. However, much of football relies on confidence. He needs to have a little bit more support and for more people to go forward to help him.”
