Prior to their matchup with Liverpool, Southampton has suffered another injury setback.
When the season resumes after the international break, Arne Slot’s team will travel to St. Mary’s on Sunday at 2:00 PM. The Reds lead the Premier League standings by a margin of five points.
Since returning to the top division, Southampton has only managed four points in 11 games and is currently the clear favorite to be relegated. They have been plagued by a new worry during the campaign break and will be huge underdogs when they play Liverpool.
Despite starting every league game for the Saints this season, Jan Bednarek will miss three weeks of action. When Portugal defeated Poland 5-1, the center-back suffered a knee injury.
When Southampton plays Liverpool, they might be missing seven players. Goalie Aaron Ramsdale had to have surgery after suffering a broken finger, which forced him to leave England’s squad. The former Arsenal player has not yet been set a return date.
Gavin Bazunu, a fellow goalie, is still undergoing therapy for a chronic Achilles injury. Flynn Downes missed the Saints’ 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, and Will Smallbone (thigh) has missed the team’s last four games. Ryan Fraser has missed the last two games, and Ross Stewart has only made five appearances for Martin’s team all season.
Conversely, Liverpool is anxious about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fitness. He missed England duty after hobbling out of the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa due to a hamstring injury. There are also questions about Federico Chiesa (muscle), Harvey Elliott (foot), Diogo Jota (ribs), and Alisson Becker (hamstring).
