American multi-millionaires Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy are in talks to buy Sheffield United from Prince Abdullah and now it is revealed who is holding up the deal
Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah is impeding the sale of the Blades by refusing to sign off on the £100 million acquisition.
Americans Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy have secured a full agreement with the EFL to buy United, with Prince Abdullah believed to be the final obstacle. Rosen and Eltoukhy, multimillionaires, do not require any additional partners to fund the transaction, and their consortium has sufficient funds to accomplish it.
Reports saying they require another partner are inaccurate, as their bid is fully funded. After United was docked two points for financial violations, Ohio-based financier Rosen, co-founder and chairman of Resilience Capital Partners, and Eltoukhy devised a strategy to propel the club forward and provide much-needed stability.
They want to make finances available to manager Chris Wilder, who began restructuring the club in the summer, if he finds any players in January to help their promotion quest. The Blades are equal with Sunderland at the top of the Championship, and Rosen and Eltoukhy believe the clock is ticking on their ability to aid him.
Rosen and Guardant Health co-founder and CEO Eltoukhy, who lives in California, don’t understand why Prince Abdullah is holding up the purchase given the Saudis have been looking for a buyer for a long time. Prince Abdullah risks jeopardising all of Wilder’s hard work despite the boardroom turmoil, as the Blades had the third worst season in Premier League history last season, finishing with only 16 points.
