Nottingham Forest want £41m “wizard” who could be their own Vini Jr

Since being promoted in 2021–2022, Nottingham Forest has added some top-notch Brazilian players. It has been a wise move on the club’s part to bring talent to their team from a market that may be less accessible.

Two of those transactions, of course, have been especially motivating. In January 2023, the Midlands team recruited midfielder Danilo, and a few months later that summer, they added defender Murillo. They came from Corinthians and Palmeiras, respectively.

Since his debut, Murillo has participated in every Premier League game and has played in 47 games for the team. Danilo, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder, has made 50 appearances for Forest, contributing 10 goals and 10 assists.

He will be sidelined for several months, though, after suffering a serious injury in the season’s opening game. Carlos Miguel, a 6′ 8″ goalie who also joined from Corinthians, is the other addition.

With the success they have had signing players from Brazil recently, they are thought to be looking to repeat the masterclass again in the coming months.

Forest targeting Brazilian prodigy

The player in question is Lorran, a winger for Flamengo who is eighteen years old. Over the past 12 months or so, the Brazilian has been targeted by a number of Europe’s top teams, and he may leave the team he has played for at the age group and first team levels.

The Midlands team is reportedly investigating a deal to bring the teenager to the City Ground in January, per an exclusive report from Ontheminute.com. According to reports, they are ‘keeping an eye’ on the man Manchester United coveted last summer.

In fact, there are other Premier League teams vying for the young player’s services besides Forest. Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and West Ham United are also interested in Lorran.

The alleged £41 million release clause will have to be paid by whichever team tries to sign the winger, though Flamengo may be able to negotiate a lesser price.

Why Lorran would be a good signing

Lorran, an 18-year-old winger, does not appear to have very impressive stats in professional football. The Flamengo number 19 has made 31 appearances for the team and contributed to five goals. That being said, the child has only played 1134 minutes, or 12.6 whole 90-minute games.

Furthermore, by playing well for the team’s under-20 squad, the Brazil under-17 international has shown why he is so much sought after. With eight goals and two assists in 19 games for the youth team, he has an impressive record.

There are undoubtedly parallels between Lorran and Vinicius Junior, another former Flamengo player. In addition to playing for the first team at the Brazilian club, the Real Madrid number seven placed second in the 2024 Ballon d’Or standings.

Given that Vinicius only contributed 19 goals in 69 games and had mediocre numbers as well, Lorran’s stats shouldn’t really be taken too seriously.

Nevertheless, Los Blancos paid £38.7 million to sign him in July 2018 after spotting his clear talent. Despite almost missing out on the Ballon d’Or, his countryman Ronaldo declared him the “best player in the world” at this point.
