Celtic’s future transfer endeavours have received airtime over the international break and Lennon Miller has cropped up as a name to watch out for.
Continuing his outstanding run for Motherwell this season, the 18-year-old has four goals and three assists in 18 games across all competitions.
Given his ascent to become one of the most exciting players in the Scottish Premiership, it’s no surprise that Celtic has entered the battle for Lennon Miller as his contract at Fir Park expires.
According to rumors last week, Celtic will have to pay £4 million to land Miller as suitors begin to circle for his services. Rangers are admirers, and Liverpool could possibly be involved.
With his future being the subject of Scottish football, Mark Guidi has thrown more insight on a shifting scenario.
Mark Guidi shares Lennon Miller latest amid Celtic speculation
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Guidi stated that he is ‘100%’ aware that Miller would be pursued by Germany and Spain, but that he expects the Scotland Under-21 international to join Celtic.
He remarked, “I am sure there is interest from Italy since they do their study and are already scouring this market. I am confident that there is interest from Germany, Spain, and, of course, the south.
“I am confident that Celtic and Rangers will have expressed an interest. I believe he will end up at Celtic; I believe he will leave in January, and I believe he will be sold in January because, for Motherwell, he is hot, and he may get even hotter, but you must be careful not to put him at danger with 18 months left on his contract.
“If they have a definite guaranteed £3 million-£3.5 million with the possibility of a couple of million in add-ons here and there, Motherwell must accept that. They have to; Celtic can pay that kind of amount all day long. In the long run, I believe that getting someone like Lennon Miller the way he appears right now would be a steal for £3 million to £3.5 million with add-ons.
“Right now if you’re asking me, I said it on Thursday night, he’s going to have four or five really good options in January, I think he’ll end up at Celtic.”
Lennon Miller would fit Celtic’s long-term vision
In the short term, Miller may struggle to compete with Callum McGregor or Reo Hatate at Celtic, but looking ahead must be the best option for the Bhoys.
Despite his impressive performances this season, the club captain is not getting any younger, and a transfer in the opposite way is possible at some point in the future.
Having the next great ready to step in must be Celtic’s top aim, and Miller certainly fits the criteria, with the extra benefit of being a homegrown talent.
His next move will be the subject of much speculation in the coming months, so fans should keep a watch on his status.
