Brighton’s £70m strike duo spotted in training and could start at Bournemouth for first time ever

After the international break, Brighton has resumed training and is hard at work getting ready for their Premier

League matchup against Bournemouth on Saturday.

With 19 points from their first 11 games, Fabian Hurzeler’s team is currently sixth in the top division. Joao Pedro and

Matt O’Riley, two replacements, gave them a thrilling 2-1 victory over champions Manchester City at the Amex

Stadium last time around.

As the Seagulls prepare for the hectic festive schedule, which begins with Andoni Iraola’s 12th-place squad, the

recovery of both players from their ailments is a significant help.

Brighton's Igor Julio, Georginio Rutter and Joao Pedro prepare to face Bournemouth this Saturday

Due to knee and ankle problems, Pedro has only been able to make three starts this season; yet, the £30 million

Brazilian has already scored three goals and provided an assist. The 23-year-old hopes to play for the first time since

the 1-1 draw against Arsenal in August after using the international break to further strengthen his fitness.

Pedro and fellow striker Georginio Rutter, who cost £40 million to acquire from Leeds United last year, were seen

working out together yesterday.

The £70 million striking pair hasn’t started a Premier League game together this season due to injury, but that may

change on Saturday at the Vitality Stadium.

Hurzeler told Sussex World, “[Pedro] always has extra motivation,” before to Pedro’s comeback. “Whenever I talk to

him, he is eager to return to the field as soon as possible. On the field, he is a player who can have an impact. I hope

he stays steady for the upcoming month so he can play for us for the entire season.

“You can sense his happiness in the locker room as the team is performing well. He must be pleased that Georginio

and Danny [Welbeck] are in this condition. Another possibility is that they will all play together.

Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), Yankuba Minteh (muscular), Adam Webster (thigh), Solly March (knee), Carlos Baleba (knee),

James Milner (hamstring), Lewis Dunk (calf), and Tariq Lamptey (calf) are among Brighton’s players having fitness

issues.
