Following Gareth Ainsworth’s appointment, Birmingham City has been cautioned that they would be facing Shrewsbury Town with a different perspective.

The Blues’ next opponents are Shrewsbury, who had a bad start to the season and had a manager change. The Shrews are six points outside of safety after losing 11 of their last 15 league games.

After just one victory in their last 12 games in all competitions, Paul Hurst was relieved of his duties. After taking over, Ainsworth, who last managed QPR in October 2023, is certain he can improve the Shropshire teams’ performance.

As the international break draws to a close, the players will resume work on Monday, and Ainsworth will have the responsibility of influencing his team’s mentality. They must first defeat Birmingham, who are ahead by 22 points.

At his unveiling, Ainsworth told the Shropshire Star, “I want to tell them that starting Monday, this place is going to change.”

“The team has some talented members and bright spots. While there are undoubtedly some good things there, there are also a lot of bad things that need to change.

“We must alter their perspective, their thought process, and their approach. Without a doubt, we can escape this situation. If I thought I was here to lead a team into League Two, I wouldn’t be sitting here. I will inform every player that the goal is to maintain a squad in League One.”

Shrewsbury will need to overcome Birmingham, something that only Charlton Athletic has accomplished in the league, if they want to get going against them. Shrewsbury defeated Leyton Orient at the end of August, their lone victory at home this season.

Shrewsbury and Birmingham have already faced off this season after meeting in the EFL Trophy. Scott Wright scored a brace in the first half, and Emil Hansson and Tomoki Iwata also found the net. Chris Davies’ team won easily.
