Reading midfielder Lewis Wing says his goal against Crawley Town, which won the EFL Goal of the Month competition, was the ‘greatest of his career.’
The 29-year-old is a fan favourite, having won Player of the Season in his rookie season. The former Wycombe Wanderers and Middlesbrough star is known for his lethal long-range finishing and has scored some memorable goals, particularly from free kicks. He has three goals this season after scoring 11 the previous season.
However, his goal in a 4-1 victory against Crawley Town last month defeated heavy opposition to win League One’s Goal of the Month for October.
Speaking to the EFL ahead of receiving his trophy, Wing said: “I think the goal is definitely up there with the best of my career – in terms of technique, scoring in front of home supporters, and then going on to get all three points, it certainly made it a more special goal.” Don Goodman, the lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit, said: “Wing was well over 30 yards out when he scooped up the ball in midfield; defenders backed off and invited him to shoot. A big error! “He has a history of long-term miraculous goals and delivered yet again! This one must be right up there with his best, as it left his boot like an arrow bound for the top corner
