Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Darent Valley Hospital Daycare Centre

Around 30 firefighters were called to tackle a fire at a daycare centre within Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford on Saturday evening. The fire, which broke out shortly before 8 PM, prompted an immediate evacuation of the facility.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene within minutes and worked quickly to contain the blaze, which reportedly started in a storage area of the daycare centre. Firefighters used multiple hoses and breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control.

Hospital staff ensured that the daycare centre was evacuated safely, and there have been no reports of injuries. Patients in nearby hospital wards were also moved to precautionary safety zones as smoke filled parts of the hospital.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service stated:

“We deployed six fire engines to the scene and successfully contained the fire to the daycare centre. We are now working to determine the cause of the blaze.”

Darent Valley Hospital management praised the swift actions of staff and firefighters, saying:

“The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority. We are grateful for the prompt response of emergency services and for the cooperation of everyone during the evacuation process.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that it may have started in an electrical unit, but this is yet to be confirmed.

While the fire was confined to the daycare centre, some hospital services have been temporarily disrupted due to smoke and water damage. Patients and visitors have been advised to follow updates from the hospital for further instructions.

Local residents and hospital visitors have expressed concern but are relieved that no injuries were reported. One visitor, Emma Davis, shared:

“It’s scary to think how quickly something like this can happen, but it’s a relief to know everyone is safe.”

Fire crews remain at the site to ensure the area is fully secure and safe. Further updates on hospital operations and the cause of the fire are expected in the coming days.

Authorities have urged anyone with information or who witnessed the fire’s start to contact Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
