Lorry Driver 6 Killed and Five Injured in Major M6 Crash in Preston

A tragic accident on the M6 motorway near Preston has claimed the life of a lorry driver and left five other individuals injured. The collision occurred late Friday evening, prompting an immediate emergency response and the closure of the roads.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, which involved multiple vehicles, including a heavy goods lorry and several cars. The collision took place near Junction 31, causing significant disruption and delays for motorists.

Lancashire Police confirmed the death of the lorry driver at the scene. The identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been released as investigations continue. Five other individuals sustained injuries, with two reported to be in critical condition. They were transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance.

 

The M6 has been closed in both directions between Junction 31 and Junction 32 to allow for accident investigations and vehicle recovery. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Traffic diversions have been put in place, but significant delays are expected through the weekend.

Highways England is working to clear the debris and assess the road damage. A spokesperson said, “We are working closely with emergency services to ensure the safety of all involved and to reopen the road as quickly as possible.”

 

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that may help in understanding the events leading up to the crash.
