Ruud van Nistelrooy ‘in frame’ for job Frank Lampard wants after Man United exit
Ruud van Nistelrooy left Manchester United on Monday but is already being linked with his next potential job
After serving as interim manager at Manchester United, Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the front-runners to take
over as manager of Coventry City.
The Dutchman quit United on Monday after new head coach Ruben Amorim fired him, refusing to retain him as
an assistant coach even though he requested it.In his four games in command, Van Nistelrooy won three and drew one.
Prior to his interim stint, the 48-year-old had only held one other senior managerial position at PSV Eindhoven,
when he won the Johan Cruyff Shield and the Dutch Cup in 51 games during the 2022–2023 campaign.
Following the dismissal of long-time manager and former United player Mark Robins, Coventry is currently
searching for a new first-team manager. This choice has proven completely.
Frank Lampard has been tipped to become his successor having submitted an application for the vacancy.
With experience at Derby County, Chelsea, and Everton, the former England great is still the clear favourite
according to the bookmakers at 1/2, while temporary Three Lions manager Lee Carsley is in second place at 11/4.
The chances for Van Nistelrooy’s possible arrival are 10/1, making him the third most likely coach to be hired by
Coventry. Nicky Butt, a legend of United, is ranked in the top 10 by Sky Bet with odds of 22/1.
Van Nistelrooy, who was hired as an assistant by Erik ten Hag this summer, stated in a statement prior to his
departure that he still aspires to be a manager and that he hopes to eventually take over United permanently.
“I gave this a lot of thought before deciding to join United as an assistant coach or manager. I thought that joining
Manchester United was a unique experience for me, and I wanted to have a part in this journey with the team as
an assistant as well.
“I had certain goals to oversee. I decided to sign a two-year contract to serve as an assistant, and I’m still
determined to do so.”
Only twenty-four hours after leading United to a 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday, Van Nistelrooy was
dismissed of his duties. In the 55 senior matches he has officiated, he achieves a 70% win ratio.
