Matt Piper outlines key Steve Cooper ‘problem’ that most Leicester City fans will agree
Steve Cooper is under increasing criticism from the majority of Leicester City fans following their terrible start to the Premier League season.
The Foxes are in danger of dropping into the relegation zone, and despite having a three-point lead over Crystal Palace in 18th position, Leicester City has only won two of its first 11 games.
Most recently, Leicester suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Manchester United, which was the last straw for many supporters, who demanded that Steve Cooper be fired.
Even though the 44-year-old has experience keeping Nottingham Forest in the top division, his pragmatic style is disliked by the supporters, and some Leicester supporters have even demanded that Ruud Van Nistelrooy take Cooper’s position as manager.
At this current stage, it appears the board are prepared to back the Welshman and that isn’t a popular decision among the fanbase, as he keeps on making the same mistakes.
Matt Piper outlines Steve Cooper’s biggest ‘problem’ at Leicester City
Cooper delivered a scathing assessment after Leicester lost to Manchester United, accusing his players of missing ambition and purpose in the final third.
Leicester’s lack of top scorer Jamie Vardy during the match may have contributed to their lack of goals, but Cooper also bears some responsibility.
Former Foxes winger Matt Piper believes the manager’s biggest ‘issue’ is not changing tactics when things aren’t working.
As per BBC Sport, Piper said: “I know a lot of fans are already to the point where they want him gone, but he doesn’t help himself. He uses comments like that after the game but he didn’t do anything about it.
“As the club’s manager and leader, you must take action to turn things around on a particularly poor afternoon.
“He tells you straight away what the problem is but it keeps happening week on week and that’s really not helpful for the manager.”
Cooper was not pragmatic enough on the sidelines, as they conceded two goals in the first half and he did not make his first substitute until the 70th minute, demonstrating his lack of tactical understanding.
December is a pivotal month for Leicester City
To finish their November schedule, Leicester will play Chelsea at home after the international break and then travel to Brentford a week later.
Cooper’s team will then play six games in December, including consecutive matches against Manchester City and Liverpool over the Christmas break.

The Foxes are also preparing for a potential relegation six-pointer at home against Wolves on December 22nd, in a month that might be critical to their survival chances.
Typically, sides at the bottom of the Premier League league on Christmas Day are relegated to the Championship.
Leicester will want to avoid finishing in the bottom three, but if they do, the board will almost certainly fire Cooper.
