More Than 80 Firefighters Battle Major Blaze at Southampton Commercial Garage
At 05:05 crews were called to a major fire at a commercial garage on Bitterne Road West, Southampton. The fire, which involved multiple vehicles, spread to adjacent buildings. At the height of the response, 11 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, and other specialist vehicles were deployed. Crews laboured tirelessly to contain and manage the incident. As the fire was brought under control, the operation was gradually scaled down, with relief crews taking over. Due to the number of emergency vehicles involved, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary closed the road.

HIWFRS Fire Investigation Officers have concluded that the fire was accidental, believed to have started within a vehicle.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirms that the incident has been resolved, and the site has now been handed back to its owners.
The incident is now under investigation to ascertain the cause.
Our crews have left the scene, but will be returning to conduct reinspections of the site at 7pm this evening. Bitterne Road West is now completely open to traffic.
The incident has been further scaled down, with one crew remaining on site to monitor the building, which sustained significant damage.
Traffic Update: We are pleased to announce that the Southampton fire is now under control. Cordons and road closures have been lifted in one direction.
We are scaling down our response to three fire engines and one Aerial Ladder Platform. It is likely that we will remain onsite throughout the day damping down and dealing with hotspots.
