Man charged with murder after death in Wolverhampton

A spokesman for West Midlands Police stated: “We’ve charged a 31-year-old man with murder after the death of a

man in Whitmore Reans in Wolverhampton on Friday evening. A man named Nicholas Cope was found in cardiac

arrest on Newhampton Road East at around 6pm and died shortly after, with an investigation starting shortly after.

Officers from St Peters and Park Neighbourhood Team made the arrest on Tuesday morning, and the 31-year-old

Turner was taken into custody where he is currently being held.” Alex Turner will appear at Walsall Magistrates

Court on Thursday, two days after being arrested and charged with murder.

“Nicholas Cope, 48, tragically passed away at around 6 p.m. after being discovered in cardiac arrest on Newhampton

Road East.

Officers from our St Peters and Park Neighbourhood Team made an arrest early on Tuesday morning as

investigators worked to determine the specifics of what transpired.

“Alex Turner was accused of murder today. He is still being held till tomorrow’s hearing at Walsall Magistrates

Court.

“Although this is a significant step forward in our inquiries, we are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of

this tragic incident,” stated Det Insp Nigel Box, the investigation’s main investigator.

Given that Newhampton Road East is a popular thoroughfare, we would ask any cars who were in the vicinity at

approximately 6 p.m. on Friday to check their dashcams as they might have film that might help with the inquiry.

“If you’ve got footage, or other information you believe will help enquiries, please contact investigators on 101 or Live

Chat, quoting log 4215 of 8 November.”
