Kasper Schmeichel has shared some intriguing comments with the media today, ahead of Celtic’s trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday.
The veteran Denmark international was in fine form midweek as the Hoops defeated Leipzig at Parkhead, demonstrating his ageless character by making multiple saves to deny the Bundesliga side.
With nine domestic clean sheets under his belt, Kasper Schmeichel has had an excellent start to his Celtic career, and fans have been pleased by his reactions and distribution.
Typically, the former Leicester City player is a prominent voice in the dressing room, giving his knowledge on the pitch as Celtic pursue domestic glory and Champions League advancement.
However, he was eager to clarify some myths earlier today, as he shared his thoughts ahead of the Bhoys’ Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock this weekend.
Kasper Schmeichel discusses Celtic’s victory over RB Leipzig.
Speaking as part of his media duties, Schmeichel expressed his delight after the Bhoys defeated Leipzig in the Champions League, but was quick to dismiss any claims that the victory helped to prove a point following Celtic’s crushing setback to Borussia Dortmund on matchday two.
He said, “I think it was a very good performance.” It was complete in numerous ways. We started the game well, fell behind, and then we needed to show character, belief, desire, and poise to get back into the game; we worked our way back in, and I thought it was a complete performance.”
When asked about the group suffering criticism at Dortmund and trying to prove a message, Schmeichel replied: “I don’t know, to be honest; I don’t really see it that way. With the greatest respect, I do not read what you write. It can be harsh at times, and it needs to sell.
“For me, I watched the Dortmund game. It was a one-time occurrence; I knew it was not representative of the team we were; they had their finest day, and we had our worst. It is possible for the two to encounter at the Champions League level.
“We demonstrated in Atalanta and against Leipzig exactly what type of team we are. We demonstrated in pre-season when we faced both Manchester City and Chelsea that we have the capacity to move the ball quickly and cause a lot of problems for any club, and we certainly did so against Leipzig.”
Celtic are in a strong mental state to move forward following Leipzig.
With Kilmarnock now the most important task at hand, Celtic are in the best possible position to travel to Rugby Park with confidence.
However, confidence in one’s own abilities must be swapped for complacency, especially given the likelihood of Aberdeen winning against Dundee on Saturday evening.
Position: Team Played Won Drawn Lost For/Against Difference Points 1
Celtic: 10 9 1 0 29 3 26 28 2
Aberdeen: 10 9 1 0 20 9 11 28 3.
Rangers
10 6 1 3 15 8 7 19

Dundee Utd
11 4 4 3 15 13 2 16
Ultimately, Celtic will be favourites against Kilmarnock, but they must avoid any sense of a European hangover at a difficult stadium in order to win, which will be a familiar challenge this season given their Champions League involvement until at least January.
Hopefully, the Bhoys can take the task in stride before the next international break, which will provide some reprieve.
