The duo has created a rock-solid connection in the heart of the Hoops rearguard.
Celtic’s American central defensive duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty both missed training ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock.
The pair began the dramatic Champions League triumph over RB Leipzig at Parkhead on Tuesday, but Sky Sports reports that they were missing as Brendan Rodgers put his players through their paces at Lennoxtown barely 48 hours before the Rugby Park away day. Trusty, an ex-Sheffield United player, appeared to injure his ankle in the first half, and Carter Vickers was replaced by Liam Scales with 15 minutes remaining, which will be concerning given the ex-Tottenham Hotspur player’s recent recovery from a toe injury.
Carter-Vickers appears to have formed a powerful central defensive pairing with his fellow US international, Trusty. Together with Carter-Vickers, the summer arrival from Sheffield United has elevated his game to new heights.
His teammate agreed, “Trusty has been very good since he joined the club. I usually say that a defensive relationship requires time. You need time to learn about each other’s habits and such. But Trusty has performed admirably since his arrival. Scalesy (Liam Scales) has also done exceptionally well this season.”
Celtic travel to Ayrshire with the goal of winning their fourth title in a succession, but they might start three points behind Aberdeen if the Dons beat Dundee at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.
